Ok… so we flew out to Calgary on Tuesday March 4th at 9:00pm. We were supposed to fly out on Wednesday morning at 7am but due to the horrible storm that was predicted we were able to change our flights for no charge! They were going to charge us $400 but Josh used his charm and they waived the cost!!! SWEET! We were sure lucky because it seemed like right when we boarded the storm began. We were even a bit nervous to take off because of the strong winds and TONS of snow falling but it all worked out.
Kylah didn’t sleep a wink. Liam slept almost the whole time. Kylah was literally going nuts… by the end she was climbing up the seats to try to get over to the other side (we have a video for proof!!), she was screaming, jumping up and down. She was just soooo overtired. We landed in Calgary at 11:30pm their time… 1:30am Toronto time so no wonder she was so nutso. We finally got her in bed at Bree and Eric’s at 3:00am (toronto time). Oh the joys of travelling with kids.
We had a GREAT day with Bree and Zoe at their house… and then Eric came home from work and we were able to hang out a bit!
Thursday Josh, Kylah, Liam and I headed off to the amazing condo in Canmore… the mountains!!! (Make sure you ask us sometime about our experience at KFC in Cochrane… NASTY!!!) After we got settled and the babies napped, we went for a walk to the park. The weather is GORGEOUS out here right now… it’s been in the high teens and lower 20′s so we’re just wearing light jackets. So nice.
Friday we went into town, parked at Starbucks, got ourselves a coffee and then walked into downtown Canmore. I completely forgot to bring some walking shoes… I’m an a complete idiot because that’s mostly what we’re doing out here… walking, walking and walking!! There was an alright sale at a store so I picked up some appropriate shoes. That afternoon, Bree, Eric and Zoe drove out to spend the weekend with us. They got here at about 2:30 or so. We went out to dinner (oh.my.gosh. another funny story about that!!) at The Grizzly Paw. It’s a really neat restaurant here in town that’s also a micro-brewery. Of course Josh and Eric needed to sample some. I even had a raspberry beer! It was pretty good.
Saturday we decided to head up to Lake Louise for something to do. It’s only a 45 minute drive from here. What an awesome day… it’ll sure be a highlight of our trip. It’s so beautiful there. The lake was frozen and people were skating. We didn’t have skates or didn’t want to rent any so we just went on their with our shoes. Kylah loved it. She was slipping and sliding and kept saying “FUN Mommy!!” After that we were able to get our own private sleigh ride around a bit of the lake. When we first got there, we asked how much it cost and it was $27.50 per person (kids were free) for an hour ride. Josh thought that was a bit steep and figured the kids wouldn’t last THAT long so we opted out of it. Bree was determined and asked the lady who was coordinating the tickets if we could just pay $20 for us all and go for a 10 minute trip. The lady was more than accommodating. It was soooo much fun. Kylah and Zoe were giggling the whole time and their faces were priceless.
We drove back to the condo and made the girls some dinner and put them to bed. Eric then made this amazing steak dinner for us all. I was sooooooo full after. I didn’t think I’d ever eat again.
But I did…. Bree made reservations at the Banff Springs Hotel Sunday brunch for this morning at 11:30. According to them, it’s the best thing ever so we had to try it out. The hotel itself is absolutely stunningly beautiful. Kylah and Zoe were super excited that we were going to the castle for breakfast. The food was amazing… anything you could ever imagine was there. It’s really pricey but totally worth the experience. The views alone from the restaurant make it totally worth it. We just walked around for a bit after and took our own little tour of the hotel. GORGEOUS.
This afternoon, Kylah, Liam and I had a 3 hour nap. All four of us (Josh, me, Kylah and Liam) have colds. Kylah has actually picked up pink eye from somewhere and has a bit of a fever so the sleep was much needed. She was up most of the night last night. Poor girl.
Anyway, here’s a link to a video of our trip so far that Josh put together last night!! Enjoy!!
