Okay so the last post was August 16th, and SO much has happened since then. You may recall (or you can read below) that I was down because Laura and Kylah had gone to Montreal for a few days. Laura will post photos and tell you all about that later. They ended up getting back on Sunday, and I have been happy ever since. For the most part.
I should have entitled this post, “Purolator is not a real shipping company”. I seriously think that Kylah could deliver things faster than them. Here is story #1 for this post:
I sent in my laptop for repair (again… don’t ask) because the wireless card needed replacement. So off it went on a Thursday from Muskoka Woods to Mississauga. Apparently they got the repairs done quickly, which is great, but for some reason they didn’t use their brains and went ahead and shipped it to our office in Scarborough!!! I mean, great – it got their by Monday, kudos to the repair guys, but what the heck!?!?!? I’m not in Scarborough!!! I sent it from ROSSEAU!!!!! So then began the process of trying to get my laptop up to the camp. After many failed attemps trying to get people to pick it up while they were in the city, I resolved to have it Purolated so I could get it the next day since I had all this work piling up that I couldn’t do properly. Apparently “Next Day” means “Next Week”. Ya, I guess something got lost in translation. I JUST got my laptop yesterday, and it was sent last Tuesday!! I think they tossed it on the back of a donkey or tied it to some carrier pidgeons or something. Needless to say I won’t be using their *cough* “service” again, especially since they have not apologized nor accepted any responsibility for their MAJOR error.
Okay, change gears to a more happy storyline. Story #2: The return of the Henkelman.
That’s right folks! Mr Bryan Henkelman and his lovely wife Erika are returning to the promise land from Caronport, Saskatchewan where they have been for, I don’t know, EVER!! They came last week for a recon visit and OH YES – They will be moving back as of THIS OCTOBER!!!! (Can you tell I’m excited about this?) Bryan will continue to work for Briercrest doing recruitment in Ontario, and Erika is looking for a job in Outdoor Education, in which she has a degree. So if anyone reading this knows of an opening in that field, please comment to this post and leave some details! One of the fun things that might happen as a result of this grand homecoming is the return of the Henkelband! (www.henkelband.com) More to come on that one, I hope.
Oh yes, and Bryan came on his birthday – what a nice thing to do. It also happens to be Laura’s birthday the next day (unless you look at her Health Card, which shows her birthday as the 24th, not the 25th which it says on her birth certificate… we think Steve was tired when he filled out those forms
). Anyway, Laura made a cake and we celebrated a happy birthday for Bryan and Laura. Fun times. See a photo in the album below.
Now on to Kylah – Story #3: Kylah is all growed up. Yes I said growed.
When she got back from Montreal I could not believe how much she changed, and it was only 6 days!! Wow – she was grabbing everything in sight with ease (she has done this for a while, but she was much more precise), she was SITTING UP BY HERSELF!! (she has rolled before, but we attributed it to a) the slant of the bed, and b) the MAJOR tilt of the trailer which they have since leveled), and as soon as she got back she decided, “Hey, I want to start rolling over”. Wow! She is so amazing, and still so cute! Her Auntie Steph also held her when we went for a walk, and she decided she wanted to look at the leaves on the trees as they went by overhead… I think you’ll like that video. And another major moment – we started Kylah on SOLIDS! Though they are really liquidy they are still solids. She has taken to it like a champ! Apparently you start with RICE which is easiest on babies digestive system, and the least allergenic. Next week: OATS. Here are four videos for you now, 1) Sitting, 2) Rolling, 3) Looking at the leaves, 4) Eating Solids for the first time:
I also noticed that her hemangioma (the thing near her eye) looked a lot less purple and a little smaller! We had a follow-up with the eye specialist as Sick Kids just this past Monday and he was very happy with it – said it’s not affecting her eye at all, and said there was no need to see her for about 5 months!! We felt very encouraged by this news, and hopefully we will see a steady decline in its size as we go! Keep praying!
What else to say? Well, camp is almost over now! This is the last day of Classic (teen week at Muskoka Woods) which means we pack up the truck tomorrow to move back to the city! Laura and I have decided to stay up for a little bit longer since we have this great trailer and I am off work next week. Then it’s back home for us! Wow it’s hard to believe the summer is over already – it FLEW by this year. It seems everyone I talk to feels the same way. Not sure what it was about it that made it seem that way. At any rate, I’m looking forward to being home – I have a lot (and I mean a LOT) of work to do on our yard. Seems that we have weeds standing 4 ft high in our back yard
. I call it my wild garden.
I’ll leave you with one more video and a rather large photo album for you to enjoy. The video is of Kylah’s first time on the swing – Laura took her down to the field and put her in. Turns out she loves it! The photo album is just a collection of all the photos since the last post, before my laptop came back. I did not include any photos of Laura and Kylah’s trip to Montreal because Laura has some funny stories about it. Enjoy!
